12th Extended Semantic Web Conference

Sergio Fernandez

For twelfth consecutive year the Extended Semantic Web Conference, formerly European Semantic Web Conference,  took place in early June, this year in Portoroz, Slovenia. ESWC is a major venue for discussing the latest scientific results and technology innovations around semantic  web technologies. For us as an innovation driven startup it’s very important to keep talking with the community in our continuous effort to improve our products.

The developers workshop brought together the most practical face of the current research. With a very interesting program, including a talk about WordLift, the day finished with very interesting discussions and conclusions.

I was invited to present the keynote at the SALAD2015 (Services and Applications over Linked APIs and Data) workshop, looking back the last ten years of semantics on service-oriented architectures.

In the main track, the trend was clearly to reach out to other relevant research areas in which web semantics plays an important role, such as Machine Learning or Big data, applying the results to both established scenarios, like we are doing it in TourPack for the tourism sector, as well as for new scenarios, such as the trending nowadays Internet of Things.
